A Retro Sports Bar Revival

The legendary Mike Talayna’s Jukebox Joint from St. Louis, MO has been reimagined in Austin, TX. Inspired by his father’s iconic disco-era spot, Jason Carrier set out to create his modern-day version of Talayna’s.

Our branding captured this vision by blending the high-energy atmosphere of a sports bar with the nostalgic flair of the 70s and 80s. The result was a vibrant identity brought to life through retro-inspired design, bold décor, and a groovy, welcoming ambiance.

The design system extended across a range of applications:

• Logo and Wordmark: A playful yet strong typographic treatment paired with a starburst “T” mark that echoes both retro disco vibes and is reminiscent of sports teams.

• Color Palette and Graphics: A vibrant mix of purples, oranges, teals, and pinks, paired with geometric patterns that nod to vintage jukebox and disco-era design.

• Messaging: Phrases like “Game Time / Good Time” and “Tastes, Taps, Sports” tied together the dual identity of Talayna’s as both a go-to sports bar and a lively, nostalgic hangout.

• Collateral: From coasters to signage, the visuals leaned into playful typography and bold color blocking, ensuring the brand carried a distinctive, memorable presence both inside the bar and out in the community.

Together, these elements established Talayna’s as more than just another sports bar; it’s a vibrant destination where nostalgia, flavor, and energy intersect, carving out a unique space in Austin’s competitive bar scene.
